28.07.2022 - Axpo has agreed the sale of its 66 MW wind farm in Bisaccia/Italy to Edison S.p.A., one of the country’s leading utilities, it was announced today. The sale is consistent with Axpo's strategy of focussing on new growth initiatives.
In pursuit of its ambitious goal to develop onshore wind farms and solar plants with an installed capacity of 3 GW and 10 GW respectively by 2030 internationally, Axpo’s strategy includes the continuous review of options to redistribute wind and PV assets across Europe and divest selected plants and shareholdings. This enables the company to redeploy the resulting financial resources in these key growth areas. The sale of the Bisaccia wind farm to Edison has received all necessary approvals from the relevant authorities, and is with immediate effect. The parties have agreed not to disclose any details regarding the sale price.
Through its subsidiary WinBis, Axpo has been managing 22 Vestas V90 turbines in Bisaccia, in the Italian province of Avellino, each with an installed capacity of 3MW, since its commissioning in September 2012. The operating performance of the wind farm has been strong and stable ever since, with annual production averaging 98.5 GWh over the last six years and an average annual availability of 98.6%.
Italy remains one of Axpo’s most important European markets. Entering the Italian energy market in 2000, Axpo Italia has become the company’s largest subsidiary and an important pillar of its international operations. Firmly established as the fourth largest participant in the Italian electricity market, Axpo Italia places innovation at the heart of its renewable energy activities, taking advantage of the country’s significant wind and solar potential. The company is also committed to increasing its focus on the development of hydrogen and battery storage initiatives in the near future.
