20.01.25 – The Board of Directors of Kraftwerke Linth-Limmern AG (KLL) has approved the report and accounts for the 2023/24 financial year for submission to the Annual General Meeting. During the reporting period, the KLL power plants once again made a substantial contribution to Switzerland's security of supply.
The Muttsee, Limmern, Hintersand and Tierfed power plants produced around 1.6 billion kilowatt hours in the 2023/2024 financial year. This corresponds to the electricity consumption of around 410,000 four-person households. Compared to the previous year (FY 2023/23: 1.9 billion kilowatt hours), annual production recorded a decline. The reason for this is the slight reduction in pumping operation.
In the 2023/24 financial year, KLL's pumped storage plants purchased 1.519 billion kilowatt hours of electricity for pumping (previous year: 2.06 billion kilowatt hours). The annual costs of the energy tax borne by the partners decreased by 2.3 per cent year-on-year to CHF 214.7 million.
A defining event in the past financial year was the rockfall on 23 January 2024, which caused extensive damage to the Tierfed pumped storage power plant. However, the rockfall had only a minor impact on KLL's energy production, as the outage could be compensated for with other machine groups. Thanks to the great commitment of the employees, the Tierfed pumped storage plant was able to resume commercial operation at the end of August.
Interest in the Limmern pumped storage plant remains high. In the 2023/24 financial year, over 6900 people visited the facilities, which is once again more than in the previous year (around 6600 people).
Kraftwerke Linth-Limmern AG is a partner plant of Axpo and the Canton of Glarus. Axpo holds 85 per cent of the shares, the Canton of Glarus 15 per cent.
