23.06.2017 | The European Energy Workshop in Amsterdam

"I am here for the expertise"

Why do customers take part in a workshop of Axpo and travel through Europe partly? We just asked them.

Axpo Italia invited its customers, as well as those from other countries where Axpo is represented, to the European Energy Workshop. This took place this year in Amsterdam. In that city, which was nominated as European capital for innovation by the EU Commission in 2016. But why do custom-ers at all participate in this annual event? What do they expect from such an event? We asked around:

Focus on developments in the energy market

Domenico De Luca, CEO Axpo Trading AG, welcomed the more than 100 customers at the Mövenpick Hotel. After that, Michele Governatori, Institutional & Regulatory Affairs Director, mod-erated the panel discussion. His guests were

  • Claudia Checchi, Partner and CEO of REF-E
  • Dmitri Perekhodtsev, Vice President of FTI Compass Lexecon Energy and
  • Yves-Denis Schönenberger, Head Energy Markets Analysis of Axpo Trading AG.

They discussed the implications of the forthcoming structural shifts in the energy market on the fuel mix and prices. The experts gave an outlook on important regulatory developments. Finally, the question was raised: Will there be a new balance for the electricity and gas market after 2020? The participants as well as the guests of the podium were in agreement: significant changes are expected for the European electricity and gas market scenario over the next 4 to 6 years. The planned reduction of the nuclear power produced in France and the reduction of coal from Germa-ny were only partly offset by the growth of renewable energies. This could mean an increase in gas-fired generation. In this scenario, gas prices will remain one of the main drivers of electricity prices.
