13.03.2025 - Axpo and VW Kraftwerk GmbH (VWK) have intensified their cooperation with a new long-term delivery contract for Guarantees of Origin (GOs), which will enable the Volkswagen Group to convert its newly sold electric vehicles’ consumption to renewable energies on a balance sheet level. VWK will acquire guarantees of origin from Axpo with a total annual volume of around 580 gigawatt hours (GWh) from renewable energy projects in Sweden and Spain.
Under the recently signed agreement, which covers a ten-year period until 2034, Axpo will deliver GoOs for green electricity produced by two wind parks in Sweden. The newly built wind parks commenced operation in mid-2024 and have a combined capacity of nearly 275 megawatts (MW).
Guarantees of origin (GO) certify that a certain amount of electricity has been generated from renewable energy sources and fed into the electricity grid. They serve as proof of the ecological quality of the electricity.
The agreement follows an initial deal signed in 2023, which runs over a tenure of ten years and will see Axpo provide VWK with GoOs based on green electricity produced by solar power plants in Spain. The plants commenced operation in 2023 and have a total installed capacity of nearly 100 megawatt peak (MWp).
Domenico de Luca, Head of Trading and Sales at Axpo, stated: "Axpo is ambitious to support clients in their sustainability journey. I am proud that VW Kraftwerk GmbH continues to build on Axpo’s capabilities to accelerate the transition to renewable energy and the established close and trustful collaboration."
