26.06.2024 The fermentation plant in Winterthur has been processing green waste from Winterthur, Frauenfeld and the surrounding municipalities for 10 years now. To celebrate this milestone, we are inviting the public to an open day on 6 July. Visitors can expect a varied programme with numerous attractions and fascinating insights into the circular economy and sustainable use of biowaste.
The fermentation plant in Winterthur has processed around 210,000 tonnes of green waste over the past 10 years. From this, it has generated over 115 million kWh of high-quality biogas that has been fed into the Winterthur gas network. It also supplies tonnes of soil, fertiliser and wood products to agriculture and horticulture businesses and private customers. But Kompogas Winterthur AG isn’t stopping there: from this year, a CO2 liquefaction plant will enable carbon dioxide to be stored in concrete, acting as a carbon sink. In addition, a photovoltaic system from Stadtwerk Winterthur with an output of 129 kW (peak) has been installed.
The fermentation plant can look back on 10 successful years. To show its appreciation to the public, Kompogas Winterthur AG is holding an open day on Saturday 6 July from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. An exciting programme awaits visitors at the company’s plant near the Oberwinterthur motorway exit. In a themed exhibition, Kompogas Winterthur AG and its co-exhibitors, including the city of Winterthur (landfill, waste logistics, road maintenance, energy) and the two recycling specialists Toggenburger AG and Cridec AG, will provide insights into sustainable energy production and the circular economy. Food and refreshments will be available from various food stands. The open day will also feature fun and games for all ages, including a competition with some exciting prizes to be won.
