24.03.2025 - Due to a failure of a connection to the 220 kV power grid, a reactor shutdown occurred at the Beznau 2 nuclear power plant on the night from Sunday to Monday. The plant was in a safe condition at all times. The cause of the grid connection failure is currently being investigated.
Due to a failure of a 220 kV grid connection, the reactor in Block 2 of the Beznau nuclear power plant (KKB) was automatically shut down at 22:31 on 23.03.2025. The shutdown caused non-radioactive steam to be released via the roof of the turbine building (non-nuclear part).
The plant reacted according to design and was in a safe condition at all times. The supervisory authority ENSI and other authorities were informed in accordance with the regulations.
The reason for the failure of the connection to the 220 kV grid is currently being investigated. Unit 1 continues to run in normal operation.
