PPA: Main features and coverage types
At Axpo Iberia, we offer PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) options to cover all your needs.
Based on consumption profile:
Base Load: For clients with constant consumption (24/7).
Solar Profile Load: This is for clients with a fixed consumption profile (guaranteed energy delivery).
Wind Profile Load: This is for clients with a consumption profile based on wind generation (guaranteed energy delivery).
Peak Load: For clients whose consumption concentrates between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM (guaranteed energy delivery).
Multiclick: This is for clients with predictable consumption who want to lock in different percentages of their total consumption at various times.
Fixed Price: If you seek maximum peace of mind, this is your product. You will pay a fixed amount (€/MWh) throughout the contract duration.
Based on installations and geographical situation:
- On-site PPA: The client benefits from a lower electricity price as there are no grid costs. The energy generation facility is located on the client’s premises.
- Off-site PPA: The client can choose projects located elsewhere, leveraging economies of scale and Axpo’s extensive experience.
Types of On-site PPAs we offer
Fixed Fee:
Source of electricity: Client's plant (self-consumption mode).
Destination of electricity: Client's associated supply, with surplus compensation (installed capacity <100 kW).
Financing: Included in Axpo's service.
Settlement: Fixed monthly fee.
Additional advantages: There are no grid costs, fees, or charges, as it's self-consumed energy, and the plant remains the client's property after the amortisation period.
Solar surpluses: Axpo manages them directly. You'll receive the agreed amount for your generated surpluses month by month.
Fixed Price:

Physical:
Source of electricity: External plant (not owned by the client).
Destination of electricity: Client's associated supply.
Financing: External (not from the client or Axpo).
Settlement: Fixed PPA price (€/MWh generated).
Additional advantages: There are no space (land use) or geographical (available radiation) restrictions and no capacity limitations (access to connection points).
Solar surpluses: Not included in this mode.
Axpo can integrate pre-existing PPA contracts between the client and a third party (production plant not owned by Axpo), known as Sleeved PPA.
Virtual:
Source of electricity: External plant (not owned by the client).
Destination of electricity: There is no associated supply for the client (energy is settled by differences to keep the client at the agreed price).
Financing: External (not from the client or Axpo).
Settlement: By differences. The client receives income if the wholesale market price exceeds the agreed price. If it's lower, the client pays Axpo. This way, the €/MWh remains constant.
Additional advantages: There are no space or geographical (available radiation) restrictions and no capacity limitations (at the connection point).
Solar surpluses: Not included in this mode.

Market access for producers
Axpo's primary activity as a sales agent involves representing producers before OMIE (Market Operator), REE (System Operator), and the CNMC (National Commission for Markets and Competition), managing the sale of production programs and excess energy settlement. We offer a wide range of products and services that optimise plant management in the market, such as income guarantees and delegated dispatch services.
Market access for demand
Starting in mid-2024, Axpo can provide access to all demand with a capacity greater than 1 MW that wants to participate in balancing markets and technical restrictions. REE aims to bring markets (traditionally limited to generation) closer to demand and storage so they can also benefit from the energy transition.
Additionally, Axpo can represent direct consumers (gas and electricity) before the MO and SO. By entering the same BRP (Balance Responsible Party), you can maintain your particular regime while benefiting from Axpo's existing client portfolio.

What types of self-consumption exist?
Self-consumption is regulated in Spain by Royal Decree 244/2019, April 5. This regulation establishes, among others, the following modalities:
- Individual self-consumption with simplified surplus compensation for installations of less than 100 kW.
- Collective self-consumption in internal grids with simplified surplus compensation for installations of less than 100 kW.
- Collective self-consumption through the grid with simplified surplus compensation for installations of less than 100 kW.

What happens to the energy you don't consume?
With a self-consumption system connected to the grid, energy is not wasted but compensated. When the photovoltaic panels produce more power than you consume, the surplus is fed into the grid, and you receive compensation. This compensation consists of a discount on your total electricity bill. In the case of collective self-consumption, all participants will own the energy surpluses. The distribution of the produced energy and the surpluses will be based on coefficients agreed upon at the start of the installation.

Reactive energy is generated by operating specific electrical devices that use coils or capacitors. Unlike active energy (which is converted into light, movement, or heat), reactive energy does not perform valuable work. However, it is necessary to operate these devices.
How is reactive energy measured?
While active energy is measured in kWh, reactive power is measured in kVArh (kilo volt-ampere reactive hour), with the sum of both known as apparent energy.
What equipment consumes reactive energy?
Motors,
transformers,
compressors,
air conditioning units,
wastewater treatment plants,
lighting,
refrigeration units, etc.
Although these devices require reactive energy for proper operation, high consumption can lead to penalties on your electricity bill, significantly increasing energy costs.
How is reactive energy eliminated?
Axpo offers reactive compensation equipment that helps reduce or eliminate the demand for this type of energy.
To do this, we estimate your electricity bills or take measurements at your facility. We recommend the best equipment once we analyse the specific case, from a capacitor bank to a harmonic filter.
